7. I was told that Inspectors Stanton and Quincey had Fifty dollars each for each month during which opium was smuggled. If opium was smuggled for half a month, half only of such $50 each would be paid to each of them. The Chinese detectives got $15, $10, or $5 a month as the case might be. Inspector Corcoran got $50 a month. Sergeant Holt $25. During the time I was Chief Chinese Excise Officer, I received from Wong Yau hush money for Inspectors Stanton, Quincey, and Corcoran and Sergeant Holt as well as for all the Chinese I have mentioned above. I handed the money for Inspectors Stanton & Quincey and Sergeant Holt and the Chinese Detectives, excluding the Water Police, to the said Yeung Fat. I handed the money for Inspector Corcoran and for the Water Police to 0 Mi Cheung. I used to count the money which Wong Yau handed to me and make a memorandum of the amount and the manner in which it was to be distributed. I did not keep such memoranda.
8. During such time as I was Chief Chinese Excise Officer as aforesaid, I received money from Wong Yau for the above-named European and Chinese members of the Hong-Kong Police Force on eight different occasions. The first occasion on which I received money from Wong Yau for such purpose
